The Dairy Early Literacy Play and Learning Space at Walkersville Branch Library
Walkersville’s new library, which opened to the public on March 10, features a dedicated early play and learning space. Called the Dairy, the space reflects Walkersville’s agricultural heritage and features a dairy truck and farm house.
Benefits of Learning through Play
Designed to enhance school readiness, early literacy play and learning spaces provide children fun, hands-on learning activities that help build important academic skills. Spaces such as the Dairy are proven to increase picture book circulation while also preparing children for kindergarten and beyond.
The Dairy is the third space of its kind at Frederick County Public Libraries. In February, the Urbana Regional Library opened a similar space, the World Market. The C. Burr Artz Public Library in downtown Frederick also features an educational and interactive space called Farm City.
