Library Love Stories: Cobey England

“Cobey and his Brother, Christopher, both shared the love of books from an early age. The Richard Scary Series being a favorite as toddlers.”

Cobey England 1993-2020

Cobey was passionate about many things, from environmental concerns to the animals on the farm to fitness and health to all those he met in life. His love for reading began in the womb and infancy as his mother read out loud to him and his brother, Chris. Through homeschooling and life experiences, his love of people and for learning blossomed as he was curious and inquisitive. His first degree was from Frederick Community College, where he graduated with honors. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in criminal justice.

He mastered many hands-on skills, from cooking to bodhran, to woodturning to mechanical. He excelled at playing the hammer dulcimer with skill and zest that enthralled audiences. Cobey’s passions expanded with each passing year of his life which morphed into new skills and opportunities.

He enjoyed exploring museums, attending concerts, dancing all styles of dance, dining out, and being with friends and family in his free time. Motorcycle riding along with the mechanical aspects of motorcycles and cars also became favorite time endeavors.

His diverse collection of hats began in childhood, as he enjoyed character acting and making others laugh. He was a true character with a fond appreciation for comedy.

Early in his life, he took to the dance floor with Scottish, square, and Irish dancing. Cobey discovered ballroom dancing as a teen, and his skill always matched his
enthusiasm. He loved choreographing, teaching, and dancing in the ballroom.

Cobey's professional and personal goals were to blend his love of working on the family farm and all things dance to bring movement, joy, and creative expression to his community.
