Jeff and I both grew up in Frederick County, and this community is our home. We have two wonderful kids, Owen 6 and Sophia 2, and are grateful that many of our family and friends call Frederick home as well. We all enjoy reading, traveling, and hanging out in downtown Frederick.
Both of us have fond memories of going to the library as kids. Bringing our kids to the library has given us a new perspective and understanding of what the library provides for our family and our community. The variety of books available for both the kids and us is incredible. For Owen and Sophia, it's seemingly endless early-reading and read-along options, and I can stay current with the latest releases. At the same time, Jeff regularly utilizes Hoopla for downloading ebooks - there's something for all of us.
We're regular visitors to the Walkerville and C. Burr Artz libraries and attend storytimes and felt strongly that we wanted to support an organization we get so much value from financially. Prior to this year, we had given occasionally and always paid our fines but recently made the decision to become monthly donors.
We want to share our thanks and appreciation for all of the amazing work that FCPL did during the pandemic. The routine of the virtual programming plus the ability to do curbside book pickups was one of the ways we, as a family, broke up the monotony and kept active during that time.
Books We Love
- Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown is a family favorite
- Owen loves the Humphrey the Classroom Hamster series by Betty G. Birney
- Sophia loves any books about animals
- Jeff and I both love the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss and eagerly await the third book
Each quarter, Frederick County Public Libraries features a story from a library lover. The stories, written by our donors, share their personal accounts of what the library means to them.
