Congratulations on completing so much hard work to prepare for your job search!
Last minute reminders
Proofread your résumé. Use the spell check and grammar checks features, but do not trust them to catch everything! “Red” and “Read” are both legitimate words and the computer won’t know which one you meant to use. Get at least two other people to proofread for you.
Everything should be relevant to the job you’re applying for. Customize your resume for each job. This will give you several versions to track, date and file, both electronically and in print.
AGAIN: Keep your print versions in binders, (along with your cover letters if you had any), and copies of the job advertisement you were responding to. The more organized you are, the easier your tweaking and rewrites will be. Also if an employer doesn’t respond for a month or more after you apply for an opening, you will be able to refresh your memory about how you presented your information and what you included in your submission.
To continue to the FCWS résumé clinic:
- First and most importantly, use the information you created in this class to make your résumé as nearly perfect as possible. This means using your finished worksheets, a chosen format (preferably two or three) from résumé book samples that you acquired from FCPL, FCWS, online samples, or other sources.
- Call to schedule your FCWS Orientation 301-600-2255. Have your completed worksheets from this online class with you and you will get your résumé review coupon signed after completing the orientation.
- You can then set up your one-on-one Résumé appointment with a specialist. You’ll need to choose a Clinic that is at least two days away from your sign-up date; the Workforce Services Center needs time to make comments and copy the résumé.
- Register online with the mwejobs.com site. Any FCPL or FCWS staff member can help you.
