Gingerbread House Contest

The holidays are a time to do things that celebrate and create traditions. We all have cherished memories of creating something beautiful to mark this special time of year. We think decorating a gingerbread house is a perfect way to craft new memories, and we’re hoping you’ll join us in celebrating the sweet traditions and beauty of the holiday season by entering our gingerbread house decorating contest!

To enter, pick up a rules/entry form with recipes at the Urbana Regional Library Children's Desk. The gingerbread houses will be judged by friendly library staff.

Storyland: A Sensory Storytime for Little Ones

Join us for a special storytime in partnership with Frederick County Infants and Toddlers Program. Meet new friends and share books, music, activities, and more. Ages birth - 36 months with an adult. Registration opens two weeks before the storytime event.

Transition to Twos

Is your curious toddler transitioning from baby to child? Transition to Twos nurtures this exciting time in your child’s development through books, movement, music and rhymes. We’ll begin learning to play with others, wait turns, and listen to stories, as well as dance, sing, laugh and have fun! This storytime is designed specifically for caregivers and children 18 months to 30 months. Registration is available two weeks before the monthly program series begins.

Frederick County Infants & Toddlers Program Playgroup (ages birth-36 mos)

Join us for fun & play for little ones and their caregivers, co-sponsored by FCPL and the Frederick County Infants & Toddlers Program. This program is open to all children ages Birth-36 mos. as well as those enrolled in the Frederick County Infants & Toddlers Program.

Art Zone: Creative Drawing with Colors

Friday, December 5, 2014 - 4:00pm to 4:30pm
This class is a fun and easy way for beginners to get started drawing. Participants will have the opportunity to explore several drawing exercises and techniques to release their inner creativity. Using a free form drawing method each participant will create his or her own work of art to take home. All materials and tools will be provided. No previous drawing skills are required. Ages 9-12.

READ to a New Dog Friend

Improve your reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to a therapy dog! The Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) program improves children's reading and communication skills by employing a powerful method: reading to a dog. But not just any dog. R.E.A.D. dogs are registered therapy animals who volunteer with their owner/handlers as a team, going to schools, libraries and many other settings as reading companions for children. Allergy alert: the dogs are live animals.

Children's Holiday Tea

A special tradition in Emmitsburg! Kick off your holiday fun at the annual Children's Holiday Tea Party hosted by the Friends of the Emmitsburg Library. Dress up in your holiday finery to enjoy an afternoon of seasonal stories, songs, and treats. Children of all ages with an adult. Registration is required.

R.E.A.D. ® with Wags for Hope

Improve your reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to a specially trained "listening" animal! The Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) program works to improve children's reading and communication skills by providing registered therapy animals who volunteer with their owner/handler (as a team)to meet with and listen to children read.
