Petite Playgroup at the Library!

Wednesday, July 16, 2014 - 1:30pm to 2:45pm
Enjoy an hour of independent play during which you and your child can socialize with other parents, caregivers and children! Each playgroup will start with 15 minutes of stories, rhymes and songs led by your friendly children's librarian. The library will provide the space and a variety of educational toys to explore and share! For ages 0-3.

2 o'clock STEM Wednesdays

Join us Wednesdays for this nine-week series to see fun, fast, and amazing STEMonstrations. Get ready: there may be an opportunity for hands-on experimentation!
On June 25 (Egg Drop Challenge), July 23 (Bottle Rocket Challenge), and August 20 (Slingshot Challenge), we will have special STEMsational Challenges. Contact the library for more information and to register for these three events.

Wearable Tech Workshop (2 Parts)

Learn about electricity while creating a one-of-a-kind t-shirt! We'll use electroluminescent wire to make a design on an ordinary t-shirt, which can be lit up with a battery-operated inducer. Must be able to attend both sessions on July 9 and 16. Please bring a light-colored t-shirt to the first workshop session. Refreshments will be served.

Think with BINK: A Fort Detrick Alliance STEM Program for Kids (Grades 1-5)

Do you know that the average speed of growth of your bones is 2 inches per year at eight years old? And that even after you reach the adult age your bones are continually remodeled, for example, the head of the femur is replaced about every four months! Do you know that Astronauts lose about 1% of their bones per week when in space? Genes, nutrition and exercise are important factors that influence the development of our bones. In this meeting we will explore these factors and what happens to the astronauts’ skeleton in the absence of gravity.
