Come meet the EmPOWER Rangers!

The EmPOWER Rangers each represent a form of energy we get our electricity from in Maryland. During this presentation you will meet all of the EmPOWER Rangers and learn about their energy sources. Parents will also learn about the EmPOWER Maryland program which can reduce energy in the home and keep money in your pockets!

Local author, Jim Rada will be discussing his newest book _The Last to Fall: The 1922 March, Battles, & Deaths of U.S. Marines at Gettysburg_. In 1922, more than a quarter of the U.S. Marine Corps came through Frederick County on their way to Gettysburg. Along the way, the Marines were greeted by crowds and they camped at both the Frederick Fairgrounds and Hooker Lewis' farm in Thurmont going to and returning from Gettysburg. In Gettysburg, they conducted battle re-enactments both historically and with modern military equipment.

The Thurmont Historical Society and the Thurmont Regional Library are hosting guest lecturer Art Callaham sharing the Fort Ritchie Story. Mr. Callaham worked on base for 21 years. Learn how 800 acres in Maryland and a mountain top in Pennsylvania evolved through ice production, the Maryland National Guard, an intelligence training center, and a tuberculosis hospital, to a critical communications link in the nation’s defense, becoming the operational support facility for a "super secret" underground facility that could have housed the president of the United States.
